Introduction

Reiki practinioners use symbols to activate the Reiki energy flow and connect to various aspects of the body-mind connection and the universe. Since Dr. Usui has introduced the original symbols in 1922, some of those were modified and even new new symbols were introduced by other practitioners. Here you can find the symbols used by the majority of the Reiki healers.

Cho Ku Rei

The very first symbol is "Cho Ku Rei" aka "Reiki Power Symbol". It means "Power of the Universe, Come Here Now." It directs energy to the physical body.

Even though students are attuned to this symbol at Level 1, usually they study and start using that symbol only after taking the Level 2 course. My teacher has taught me that symbol at Level 1.

There are two variations of that symbol. One is the reversed version. (view the image to see a bigger drawing and the order instructions.)

Sei Hei Ki

The next symbol is "Sei Hei Kei" aka "Mental/Emotional Symbol" or "Harmony". It means "Mind Be Still". This is Mental Symbol  and it's used for purification, cleansing and protection. It directs energy to the emotional body or subconscious mind.

Students are attuned to that symbol during Level 2. (view the image to see a bigger drawing and the order instructions.)

"Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen" aka "Distance Symbol". It means "Transcend Time and Space". this is the Distance Symbol. It is used to send Reiki to the past, present or future. It's useful for Healing karma. It directs energy to the mental body or conscious mind.

Students are attuned to that symbol during Level 2.

Dai Ko Mio

"Dai Ko Mio" aka "Master Teacher Symbol". It means "Great Shining Light". It is used both for attunement and healing and it works on the spiritual body level, healing the soul.

Students are attuned to that symbol during Level 3.
